Audi A7 vs Mercedes CLS

The 2017 Audi A7 and the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class are two popular luxury options for new car buyers near West Chester, Devon, and Conshohocken. The two vehicles offer an upscale interior, powerful engines, and a reputation for excellence. But if you're looking to purchase a new vehicle, which one is the best fit for you?

To help you answer that question, we've put together this 2017 Audi A7 vs. 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class comparison. Check it out now, then schedule a test drive at your local luxury car dealership.

Audi A7 vs. Mercedes CLS: Competitive Standard Features

Both the 2017 Audi A7 and the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class offer an extensive list of standard features. Still, there are several significant differences in the base models of the two vehicles, which may not align intuitively with the starting MSRP of the competitors.

For comparison, we took the two base models, the 2017 Audi A7 3.0 TSFI Premium Plus and the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class CLS550 Coupe, and evaluated them side-by-side. Here's what we found:

  • The A7 comes standard with All-Wheel Drive. The CLS550 comes with Rear Wheel Drive.
  • The A7 comes standard with a back-up camera, which is an optional feature on the CLS550.
  • The A7 comes with fog lamps, an interior cargo shade, a rear parking aid, a power liftgate, and remote trunk release. None of these features are available in the CLS550.

While many of these features are available in the upper trim levels of the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, they will cost you significantly more than they would in the 2017 Audi A7, which brings into question the value of the two competitors.

2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class vs. Audi A7 Seating & Comfort

Whether you're going out to a nice dinner or you're bringing the kids along for a ride, having enough seating for all of your passengers is a big deal to many new car buyers. Another major difference between the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class and the 2017 Audi A7 is in their actual seating capacity and passenger volume.

While the 2017 Audi A7 has enough seating for up to five passengers with a whopping 36.6 inches of second row head room and 37 inches of second row leg room, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class seems to fall a bit behind.

The vehicle's seating maxes out at enough room for only four passengers, and the vehicle's 35 inches of second row leg room just feels cramped. Taller passengers will have to ride separately because there's a half-inch less of head room in the second row-a big difference in terms of comfort.
